Here are some examples of good "WED" — writing, editing, design. The Observer Media Group shifted to the WED model in February 2015, following a seven-month redesign.

The model emphasized close collaboration between writers, editors and designers to ensure everyone has the same vision for each piece of content. These are some projects and stories I've edited (and sometimes written) in which the WED concept is on full display.

Sarasota Observer: A Year to Remember

In the past, the theme for our end-of-year issues was "The Year in Pictures," featuring some of our best photos from the year packaged by month. For the final issue of the Sarasota Observer for 2015, I didn't want the constraints of the month-by-month format, so we tweaked the theme, making it "A Year to Remember." We used fewer pictures and focused more on storytelling, allowing us to reflect with readers on the stories that impacted them in 2015.
